Frequently Asked Questions
How do I plan a route?
Open the Trip Planner tab, enter your starting location and destination. The app will generate waypoints along your route to provide incremental weather forecasts at key points during your journey.
Why are my voice announcements in a different language?
If you're using Nepali or Greenlandic, voice announcements use alternative languages due to iOS text-to-speech limitations. See our Languages page for details.
How do I change the app language?
WeatherTrip uses your iOS system language. To change it:
- Open iOS Settings
- Go to General → Language & Region
- Change your preferred language
- Restart WeatherTrip
Can I use the app offline?
Weather forecasts are cached locally, but you need internet connectivity to:
- Plan new routes
- Refresh weather data
- Calculate route distances and times
How accurate are the weather forecasts?
We use professional weather data providers, but forecasts are predictions and may not be 100% accurate. Always check current conditions during your trip and use your judgment.
How do I enable voice announcements?
Go to Settings (gear icon) and toggle "Voice Announcements" on. You can also adjust the announcement window (how far in advance you're notified).
Can I avoid highways or tolls?
Yes! In the Trip Planner, expand "Route Settings" to toggle options for avoiding highways, tolls, or international border crossings.
Does WeatherTrip support CarPlay?
Yes! Connect your iPhone to CarPlay to view your active trip, waypoint forecasts, and weather alerts on your car's display. Plan your trip in the phone app first, then it will automatically appear in CarPlay.
Why can't I plan a trip more than 10 days away?
Weather forecasts are only reliable for the next 10 days. Trips planned beyond this timeframe cannot receive accurate weather predictions.
How do I delete my data?
All data is stored locally on your device. To delete it:
- Delete the WeatherTrip app from your iPhone
- Or go to iOS Settings → WeatherTrip → Delete App Data
System Requirements
- Platform: iOS 17.0 or later
- Device: iPhone (optimized for all screen sizes)
- CarPlay: Compatible with vehicles supporting CarPlay
- Storage: Approximately 50 MB
- Connectivity: Internet connection required for planning and weather updates
- Permissions: Optional location, notifications, and speech
Troubleshooting
Weather data not loading
- Check your internet connection
- Ensure locations are valid addresses or coordinates
- Try refreshing by pulling down on the route list
Voice announcements not playing
- Verify Voice Announcements are enabled in Settings
- Check your iPhone's volume settings
- Ensure Do Not Disturb is not blocking announcements
- Grant WeatherTrip speech permissions in iOS Settings
App crashes or freezes
- Update to the latest version of WeatherTrip
- Restart your iPhone
- Reinstall the app (your data may be lost)
- Contact support if issues persist
CarPlay not showing trip
- Ensure you have an active trip planned in the phone app
- Check that your iPhone is properly connected to CarPlay
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting to CarPlay
- Restart both the car's infotainment system and your iPhone
- Ensure WeatherTrip has permission to run in the background (iOS Settings → WeatherTrip)
